This is a nice boy. He also happens to be this week's reader of the week. His name is Ben. Ben's six. He can beat you at a bum war on his trampoline. Maybe. Now let's begin.
Hi Ben. Hi. [laughing] What's so funny? Nevermind. [still laughing].
Umm, Calvin and Hobbs because it’s really funny. What's funny about it? Well um, Calvin has this stuffed animal tiger and he imagines that he comes alive and every time he walks home from school, Hobbs comes alive and he knows he’s alive and he pounces out the door and tackles him and it’s really funny. You should see it. I'd like to see it. It sounds hilarious. Do you read it a lot? I read it every night. The Essential Calvn and Hobbs.
I don’t have a second favorite book. [Starts laughing]. Oh , okay. I do have one second favorite book. The Berenstain Bears. I like it because it’s funny too. This one [laughing] is so funny, because Papa Bear goes hiking and a crocodile snatches his pants off [laughing almost hysterically now and so am I because it really is pretty funny when you think about it]. You like pretty crazy stuff. Yeah. I do.
What about that one book you told me was your favorite book once, Madmen from Space? I like that too. It’s umm, a guy that has everything jumps so high he lands in space and he was mad because he landed in space. That’s why it’s called Madmen in Space. I looked for that on the internet. Oh. But I made it up but I haven’t wrote it yet. [laughing and laughing. This guy loves to laugh and laugh and laugh].
Ahhh, it's all coming together. So, what do you like to do besides read? I like to watch Ben 10 on the computer. What's Ben 10? You know what Ben 10 is. Actually I don't. [Starts giggling] I'm too embarrassed to tell you. You have a computer. And he's right, I do. Okay. I'll see if I can find it. So what kind of food do you hate?
It's okay. You're crazy. I knnnnooooowwwwwwwww Did that make you mad? Never! [and then yes, you guessed it, laughing]. So would you rather live under the ocean or on the moon? Under the ocean. Actually on the moon. Because I’ve been under the ocean before. So I pick the other one. Like madmen in space. Mad man on the moon. Madmen madmen.
So how much to do you read? I read more than one hour some [weird sound over the phone followed by a lot of laughing] SOMETIMES. I meant SOMETIMES but I said some and then I burped. I burped the times. You burped the times? Yeah, it was really funny. I read every night. I read before, sometimes I did a burp. I'm insane. I didn't say it. So finally, last question. Do you think people should read? Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes Why? Because it's good for their brain. You learn more words. Like madmen in space. Thanks Ben. That was . . . interesting. And I can't wait to read your Madmen book when it comes out. I hope you all liked Ben's interview and if you have any questions for him, add a comment. I think he's good for it. AND, as always, if you'd like to be interviewed/featured, let me know. It's fun.

| That was possibly the sweetest interview I've ever read. It's refreshing to see an interviewee without a trace of self-righteousness or smugness. I mean, a burp? Come on... if that doesn't make one seem likable and down-to-earth, I don't know what would. Go Ben. |

| Why is it that when I burp during an interview, I never hear from the person again? More people should laugh with me when I burp. I love Ben's idea for a book. I'd be a little mad/distraught if I jumped so high that I landed in space. NOW what do I do!? Very creative. It sort of reminds me of when my little brother was about 5 and drew a whole book of men in "buck tooth armor." He had an obsession with buck teeth. |
